Native Tree Nursery

  • KNP has its own accredited and registered native tree growing nursery.

​

  • KNP has its own accredited and registered seed collection area at Derrycunnihy Nature reserve in Killarney National Park.

​

  • Both nursery and seed stand provided Acorns etc of guaranteed local provenance.

​

  • In the past 2 years 40,000 Acorns have been collected by staff of KNP.

​

  • These 40,000 Acorns plus Yew, Arbutus, Wild Cherry and Scots Pine, have been propagated by horticulture staff in Killarney National Park.

​

  • Already many of these Oak saplings etc., have been planted to enrich the native woodlands of KNP.

​

  • Yew seeds have to be processed through a specific cold stratification process.
